Will it work on what you own?
The honest answer depends on the model, not the brand. A 2014 Samsung and a 2020 Samsung are different machines with different app stores. Here is where each family stops, and what to do when yours falls below the line.
| Device family | What works | Where it stops, and the way round |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung Smart TV | Tizen models, roughly 2016 onwards | Older Orsay-based sets have no suitable app store. A stick plugged into the HDMI port is the way round it. |
| LG Smart TV | webOS 3.0 and later, most models from around 2016 | Same as Samsung below that line: the television cannot install a player, so use a stick or a box. |
| Amazon Fire TV | Fire TV Stick, Stick 4K, Stick 4K Max, Cube, and Fire TV built into a television | First-generation sticks will run a 4K stream and struggle with it. Drop that channel to a lower quality and it settles. |
| Android TV & Google TV | Chromecast with Google TV, Nvidia Shield, Xiaomi Mi Box, most Android TV boxes, televisions with Android TV built in | A box not certified for Google Play may not be offered the app. That is the box, not the app — ask us and we will give you another route. |
| Android phone & tablet | Any current Android phone or tablet, from the Play Store | Players built for a remote feel cramped on a touchscreen. Useful mainly for typing the server address, which a d-pad makes painful. |
| iPhone, iPad & Apple TV | Current iOS and iPadOS from the App Store; Apple TV by AirPlay or with a player installed on it | Several App Store listings copy each other’s names. Read the developer line before installing. |
| Windows & macOS | Any computer that runs VLC or a desktop IPTV player | There is no web player. VLC has no programme guide — it is the fastest way to test a stream, not the way to watch television. |
Two things hold true on every row. Your credentials can be installed on as many of your own devices as you like, but only one may play at a time. And the connection matters more than the hardware: around 15 Mbps for Full HD, about 25 Mbps for 4K, measured on the device doing the watching.
