Before you start

The steps, in order

Allow installs from unknown sources

From the home screen: Settings, then My Fire TV, then Developer options. Turn on “Install unknown apps” for the app you will download with. If Developer options is not visible, open Settings, My Fire TV, About, and click the Fire TV Stick line seven times.

Install the Downloader app

Search for Downloader in the Amazon Appstore and install it. It is the tool that fetches an installer the Appstore itself does not carry.

Install the player

Open Downloader, enter the address support sent you, and let it install. Check the publisher name on the install screen before you accept it.

Enter your credentials

Choose the Xtream Codes login if the app offers it: type the server address, then the username and the password exactly as they appear in your email. If the app only takes a playlist, paste the M3U link instead.

Turn the setting back off

Go back to Developer options and switch “Install unknown apps” off again. It is needed for the install, not for watching.

The mistake that stops most people

A server address without its port. It must end with a colon followed by a number. Leave the port off and the channel list loads completely empty, with no error message to tell you why.
